There are many factors and reasons why people develop cancer. Genetics can certainly play a role because it has been found that cancer can run in some families but this is not the biggest factor. In my opinion “lifestyle” is the biggest factor, especially in today’s world with all of the pollution, chemicals in our food supply, GMO’s, EMF’s and the list goes on. There is GOOD news though, there are things we can do now to reduce our risk of getting cancer and they are not expensive…..
Don’t Smoke!! This is a No Brainer Folks…..
Cigarette smoking is the most preventable cause of death. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths. Using any type of tobacco will put you on a collision course with cancer and has been linked to various types of cancer including cancer of the lung, bladder, cervix and kidney. Let’s not forget chewing tobacco which has been linked to cancer of the oral cavity and pancreas. Even if you don’t use tobacco, exposure to secondhand smoke might increase your risk of lung cancer. Avoiding tobacco or deciding to quit using it is one of the most important health decisions you can make.
Exercise
More than two dozen studies have shown that women who exercise have a 30% to 40%t lower risk of breast cancer than their sedentary peers. According to the National Cancer Institute, people who exercise regularly have a 40% to 50% lower risk of colon cancer, compared with those who don’t exercise regularly.
The reason exercise works so well in preventing cancer is it switches on an enzyme called AMPk – which is considered a metabolic master switch. By activating this enzyme you increase mitochondria activity and glucose uptake making you insulin sensitive, so you don’t need as much insulin. So why should you care about insulin production? Excess insulin stimulates the growth of tumors and increases systemic inflammation – which is a leading factor in the development of any cancer. Regular physical activity lowers estrogen levels and this also reduces a women’s risk of developing breast cancer.
Minimize Exposure to EMF Pollution
Electromagnetic frequencies (EMFs) – especially from wireless technology is a growing health concern –Studies have shown that EMFs may be linked to a variety of health problems including leukemia, lymphoma, brain and nervous system cancers, melanoma, breast cancer, miscarriage, birth defects, Alzheimer’s disease, Lou Gehrig’s disease, depression and suicide. EMFs have also been associated with symptoms such as nausea, headache, fatigue, anxiety, dizziness, mental confusion, memory loss, sleep disturbance, itchy or burning skin sensations, and skin rashes. Research suggests that certain EMFs affect the pineal gland’s secretion of melatonin at night. Melatonin is one of our bodies’ most potent natural cancer fighters, as well as the vital hormone that regulates our wake/sleep cycle. Our ability to heal is best at night and if our sleep cycle is disturbed – this will inhibit our ability to avoid cancer.
Ways to reduce your exposure to EMF’s is to limit your cell phone usage and never hold a cell phone near your head. If you own a cordless phone – throw it away and use a corded phone instead. And, of course, those wireless devices are not such a great idea.
High-quality Himalayan salt lamps are also a great way to reduce EMF’s and are made from pure, natural Himalayan salt. As they warm, these lamps serve as natural room ionizers, emitting negative ions into the surrounding environment that effectively bind with all the excess positive ions, reducing EMFs, killing bacteria and purifying the air.

Avoid Processed Sugar and White Flour
White food generally refers to foods that are white in color and that have been processed and refined, like flour, rice, pasta, bread, crackers, cereal, and simple sugars like table sugar and high-fructose corn syrup. Extra sugar molecules tend to damage blood vessel walls. The repeated injury to blood vessels will cause inflammation. Besides having no nutritional value and supplying empty calories, processed foods increase your risk for tooth and gum problems, obesity, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, and cancer. Try to eat an organic, plant-based diet loaded with lots of vegetables and fruit. If you eat animal products – eat only grass fed, pasture raised meats and dairy products – as much as possible. Chewing Will Improve Immune Function
Sounds weird, right? Did you know that 70% of our immune system is in our gut? Chewing properly is one of the best ways to improve digestion and immunity all at the same time. Chewing helps to produce saliva and is essential for the proper absorption of nutrients. After you swallow, hydrochloric acid is produced by the stomach for protein digestion and digestive enzymes are excreted by the intestines and pancreas to enhance digestion. If the enzymes can’t get the job done, then bacteria in the intestines will take over and finish the task. This production of bacteria will produce gas, bloating and other digestive disturbances.
So what does this have to do with cancer? Since these food particles aren’t small enough to be recognized and used by the body, they provoke immune system reactions – meaning that the immune system thinks these undigested food particles are foreign enemies and being their attack to eliminate the threat. Over time this can produce inflammation and pain in various parts of the body. It will also weaken the immune system, so that it cannot effectively do its job of destroying foreign invaders, such as bacteria, parasites, yeasts – as well as cancerous cells. So, it’s essential to relax at mealtimes and thoroughly chew each mouthful of food at least 20 times or more for better health.
Cut Down on Fat
The more fat you eat, the greater your risk of developing a highly fatal form of cancer. In a study of more than 500,000 people reported in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, those who ate the most fat (about 40 percent of their daily calories) were 23 percent more likely to develop pancreatic cancer than those who ate the least (about 20 percent of their calories). Limit fat to 20 to 35 percent of your calories—about 40 to 70 grams total in an 1,800-calorie diet.
Drink Plenty of Alkaline Water
Alkaline Water, or “ionized water,” has a number of health benefits. You may be surprised at how regularly drinking water with a pH greater than 7 can improve your personal health. Because alkaline water has a higher pH it has the ability to detoxifying and balance your body’s acidity if regularly consumed. This, in turn, makes it difficult for assorted types of viruses and diseases to form within your body. By keeping your body’s pH level in the neighborhood of 7, you are making sure that your body is a place in which viruses and diseases cannot thrive. Ionized water is particularly effective at protecting against diseases that entail bone and cellular degeneration such as osteoporosis, arthritis and various kidney and colon disorders. In addition, alkaline water has also been known to help prevent and destroy certain types of cancers because cancer cannot thrive in an alkaline environment.

Eat Lots of Fruits and Vegetables
The single most critical step you can take to reduce your risk of getting cancer is to consume a variety of raw organic fruits and vegetables (on a daily basis). Fruits and vegetables contain substances such as fiber, vitamins, minerals, carotenes, flavanoids and enzymes which protect your cells. Fruits and vegetables also contain anti-oxidants (e.g. vitamin C, vitamin E, etc.) which help rid the body of toxic free radicals.
Tip: Choose fruits and vegetables that have the most color. Fruits and vegetables with more color have higher amounts of nutrients and antioxidants than less colorful produce.
Eat Less Meat
Reducing the amount of processed meats you eat (e.g. hot dogs, bologna, and luncheon meat) and red meats (e.g. beef, pork and lamb) may help reduce the risk of colon and prostate cancers. Research confirms that the higher your intake of meat and other animal products, the higher your risk of cancer. Meat lacks the antioxidants and nutrients that protect you from cancer, and it contains saturated fat, which damages your cell membranes, and other potentially cancer-causing compounds, like pesticide residues. To reduce your risk for cancer, limit your intake to 4 ounces or less of red meat daily (which is approximately the size of a deck of cards).
Cut Down on the Booze
Although most people who drink alcohol do so in moderation, others may misuse it, with very negative health consequences. An estimated 4 to 5 million Canadians are believed to engage in high-risk drinking. Heavy drinking can contribute to many debilitating chronic diseases, including cancer. According to data from the World Health Organization, alcohol is estimated to be responsible for about 20 to 30 percent of worldwide esophageal cancer, liver cancer, cirrhosis of the liver, homicide, epilepsy, and motor vehicle accidents. One drink a day for women and less than two drinks a day for men is recommended.
Take Vitamin C Supplements and Eat Vitamin C Rich Foods
Vitamin C is an important antioxidant that helps maintain the health of blood vessels, tendons, ligaments, bones, gums, and teeth. Evidence also indicates that vitamin C and fruit consumption may be linked to a reduced risk of stomach cancer.
Take Vitamin D (the Sunshine Vitamin)
Vitamin D, a steroid hormone, influences virtually every cell in your body and is easily one of nature’s most potent nutrients to prevent cancer. Receptors that respond to vitamin D have been found in nearly every type of human cell. Studies have shown that low levels of Vitamin D are linked to certain kinds of cancers as well as to diabetes and asthma, but new research also shows that the vitamin can also kill human cancer cells. Researchers took human breast cancer cells and treated them with a potent form of vitamin D. Within a few days, half the cancer cells shriveled up and died. The vitamin’s effects were even more dramatic on breast cancer cells injected into mice. After several weeks of treatment, the cancer tumors in the mice shrank by an average of more than 50 percent. Some tumors disappeared. Similar results have been achieved on colon and prostate cancer tumors in mice.
Here’s something people might not think of ….Test for Radon!
Radon is a colorless, odorless radioactive gas formed during the natural breakdown of uranium in soil, rock and water, radon is related to about 15,000 to 20,000 annual lung cancer deaths in the U.S. Exposure to radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer. People who smoke and are also exposed to radon have the highest risk of developing lung cancer. Radon can get into your home through cracks and holes in floors, walls or foundations and be released from building materials and well water. Testing is the only way to know if your home has high radon levels.
Well, that’s just a few of the ways you can reduce your cancer risk and there’s so much more. Just living a healthy, stress free life can cut your risk in a HUGE way!
